YOUR HOLIDAYS IN ARCO

town and sorroundings

From Althamer Palace you can easily stroll through the picturesque old town, get lost in the Arboretum botanical park with its exotic plants, and then wander through the olive tree grove and be inebriated by its scents and colours and the remains of the ancient manor. From here you will be captivated by the sight of Garda and its surroundings. Especially recommended is the Rilke Promenade, the poet's favourite path during his long stays in Arco, which winds between the town centre and its hamlets, passing through the olive tree grove.

As you get closer to Arco everything becomes milder. Here there is no snow, the sky is very blue, and I can walk without the need for a coat. Everything is different here. - R.M. Rilke

Two minutes form Althamer Palace you'll find an artisan bakery where you can buy freshly baked bread, as well as a small historic shop with a high quality delicatessen, where you'll find all the necessary to have lunch in your apartment if you so decide. On Wednesdays and Fridays you can shop at the weekly market.

Garda Trentino is also synonymous with culture. In Arco, you can't miss a visit to the Castle ruins, the majestic Collegiata Church, and the renowned Segantini Gallery. The surrounding bucolic mountain valleys are home to charming villages, including Rango, which has been awarded as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. A visit to the Alto Garda region wouldn't be complete without a boat trip to explore the picturesque towns along the Garda coastline. Trento, the provincial capital, with its Cathedral, Buonconsiglio Castle, and the futuristic MUSE museum, is less than an hour's drive away. Verona, located about an hour away, is perfect for a day trip. For winter sports lovers, Madonna di Campiglio and its ski slopes are just 60 km away.

lakes

The beaches of Lake Garda can easily be reached by bicycle thanks to the cycle paths (6KM). The free beaches, equipped with services, are ideal for sunbathing, swimming in clear waters, and relaxing in the shade. After a sunny day, nothing is more beautiful than awaiting the sunset by the lake, perhaps accompanied by a good cocktail. Make sure you don't miss alpine lake Ledro, nestled between the mountains and the spectacular pond of Tenno with its emerald waters.

The wind that blow regularly make every day the perfect day for sailing and windsurfing, or for trying one of the many water activities such as kite surfing, canyoning, or stand-up paddling (SUP).

MOUNTAINS

Arco is the world capital of free climbing, renowned for its rock faces, a true natural outdoor gym. With its 550 square meters of climbing surface, the Climbing Stadium of Arco hosts the Rockmaster every year, the most famous climbing competition in the world. In Garda Trentino, hiking enthusiasts can explore an even steeper route — the network of via ferratas, a unique asset of this region. There are also countless hiking and biking trails for all skill levels, always surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. Here are some of the must-visit trails we recommend...

OLIVE TREE TRAIL – Slow Hiking - This scenic route winds through the olive groves of Arco, a place where the deep connection between the olive tree and the land is evident. It showcases how this plant has shaped the local landscape and culture. Along the way, you’ll find fourteen interactive installations that allow you to learn about this extraordinary plant, see the surrounding scenery from a new perspective, and step into the shoes of the olive growers who, with passion and dedication, care for the groves and produce Garda Trentino’s green gold.

PONALE TRAIL – Trekking & Biking - The Ponale Road was once the only route connecting Garda Trentino to the Ledro Valley. Opened in 1851, it remained accessible to traffic until 1992. This iconic trail winds along the steep cliffs above the lake, offering breathtaking views at every turn.

MOUNT STIVO – Trekking - This route quickly ascends beyond the treeline, leading to the wide alpine meadows at the summit of Monte Stivo, which can also be seen from the Basso Sarca area. Near Malga Stivo, it’s common to encounter cows and horses, friendly companions on this scenic hike.

CIMA MONTE ALTISSIMO – Trekking - This trail follows the Sentiero della Pace (Path of Peace), a long-distance route that passes through some of the most historically significant locations along what was once the frontline of World War I. The entire Monte Altissimo slope above Nago still holds visible traces of Austrian military fortifications, including trenches, tunnels, and barracks. The trail runs through the Monte Baldo Local Nature Park, a botanical paradise known since the 15th century for its extraordinary variety of plants and flowers. For this reason, Monte Baldo is often called the “Garden of Europe.”
