A mountain biking adventure between Valle del Sarca and Valle di Cavedine.

Signage: 1720. Cavedine - Tour

Starting from Sarche, head south, first on a gravel road, then on an interesting but flat trail until you reach a cycle path on the other side of the river at Pietramurata. At the edge of the Marocche, a beautiful trail (also flat) then leads over to Trebi on Lago di Cavedine. From there you could cycle along the lake back to the starting point. But for more ambitious cyclists, this is where the real climbs finally begin. First up to Drena, where you’ll be greeted from afar by the imposing Castel Drena, then in a series of ups and downs and changing terrain through the entire Valle di Cavedine. Once you’ve coasted back down to the starting point in Sarche at Calavino, you will have climbed a total of almost 900 vertical metres in just under 33 kilometres.

ITRS - International Trail Rating System

The ITRS is an objective way to assess trails and routes from a biker’s perspective, evaluating four aspects:

  • Technical Difficulty: riding skill level needed
  • Endurance: combined effect of length, uphill and downhill
  • Wilderness: amount of planning required based on mobile phone reception, rescue options, water supply and wildlife
  • Exposure: consequences of a fall

Discover more about the ITRS system and check the classification of this tour in the photo gallery.

Punto di partenza
Sarche
Directions

Set off from the village of Sarche (250 m.a.s.l.).  This route starts on a cycle path near the bridge over the River Sarca, at the entrance to Limarò gorge (on Via Caffaro). Follow the cycle and pedestrian path to the village of Pietramurata (250 m.a.s.l.), where you will enter Via alla Busa, eventually arriving at the church square. Take a left on to Strada Nuova and after a hundred metres, turn right towards the Località ai Monti. After the canal, continue straight along the tarmacked bike path between the fields. After Rimone Canal, you will reach a junction that is 276 metres above sea level, where you will leave the pedestrian cycle path and take the dirt road on the left, which crosses Monte Gaggio and descends towards Lake Cavedine, eventually reaching the SP-214 near the southern edge of the lake after around 2 kilometres. Turn right here along the SP-214, until you reach the junction with the SP-84, which ascends in wide hairpin bends towards the village of Drena (400 m.a.s.l.) – dominated by the castle of the same name. At the village, take Via Giovanni Segantini to the right and at the roundabout, take Via Don Camillo Corradini. You will reach a church. Continue along the narrow streets of Drena Bassa and turn left onto Vicolo Cesare Battisti. Take the road on the left to exit the town before ascending uphill again on a tarmacked road into the countryside. After two wide bends, the climb continues in an easterly direction along Via di Vespiai until it crosses another tarmacked road (570 m.a.s.l.). After a few metres, take the dirt road immediately to your right in a northerly direction. The road soon becomes paved and reaches a crossroads with another paved road. Take a right here. Head up to Masi di Vigo and take Via Masi di Sotto on your left to descend to the intersection with the SP-84 (575 m.a.s.l.). You will reach the small church of S. Udalrico (580 m.a.s.l.) immediately after which you will turn right onto Via Monte Stivo, heading towards the centre of the village of Vigo. Cross Via Rocchetta and then Via Masi di Sopra, until you reach Via Nuova and the church (605 m.a.s.l.). Head down Via Camartina to your left until you cross Via Capitello, where you will take another left. As soon as you pass the capital, a tarmacked road on your right will take you through a few crop fields. Head in the same direction and you will pass a couple of intersections, eventually reaching the village of Cavedine (502 m.a.s.l.), making sure to turn left just before the sports centre. At the traffic lights, take the SP-84 on the right and follow it for about 3.2 kilometres, passing through the intersection with the SP-85. At the entrance to the town of Lasino, turn right on to Via Bassetti, in the direction of the town centre (460 m.a.s.l.). Follow Via III Novembre and Via Lagolo and when you come to the end of the village, turn right at the church, and then immediately left onto a paved country lane, which heads in a northerly direction to the village of Castel Madruzzo (480 m.a.s.l.), at the foot of the castle of the same name. Follow the road down alongside the castle in the direction of Calavino. After a short climb, you will reach Via SS. Trinità and SP-84, which leads up to the village (350 m.a.s.l.). At the end of the square, turn left on to Via Garibaldi and climb two hairpin bends up to the charming Corgnon Church (400 m.a.s.l.). Turn right immediately after the church and follow the road through the vineyards and alongside the forest, which will lead you past a wide bend to some crossroads. Take a right and descend rapidly, passing the fish farm until you reach the village of Padergnone (250 m.a.s.l.). Now turn right and follow the road uphill until you reach the village church. Turn left here and then immediately right on to Via XII Maggio. Cross the village and then turn left on to Via S. Valentino. Follow it until you reach a fork on the left, which will lead you onto a dirt road. Continue to the underpass under the SS-45bis and then climb the dirt road flanking the state road (SS) until you join it at the entrance to the village of Vezzano (390 m.a.s.l.). In the centre of the village, take the fork towards Fraveggio, along Via Dante. Once you reach the village (426 m.a.s.l.) and pass through Piazza Bressan, descend on to the tarmacked road towards Santa Massenza (250 m.a.s.l.). It runs alongside Santa Massenza Lake and up to a roundabout at the canal that connects the two lakes. At this point, take the SS-45bis, which flanks the entire length of Lake Toblino, before returning to Sarche, the departure point.
