Sustainable Garda Trentino

Every Journey Starts with a Single Step

A more sustainable Garda Trentino, for us and for future generations. A place where respect drives how we interact with nature, builds connections, and fosters economic growth. It’s an ambitious goal, nevertheless one we believe we can achieve, one step at the time.

Our first step? We've begun the journey to have Garda Trentino certified as a sustainable destination by GSTC, the Global Sustainable Tourism Council—the world’s leading authority for sustainability certification in tourism.

This will be a long and dynamic journey, a long-term commitment shared with many people and local businesses who have, in turn, chosen to make their operations greener and fairer.

Therefore if you’re up for it, we’d love for you to join us on this path! Every choice you make during your holiday can have a positive impact on the environment around you and on our local community. To help, we’ve gathered plenty of information so you can make the most of your sustainable stay in Garda Trentino. Are you in?

Natura

Nature

From the Mediterranean shores of Lake Garda to the soaring peaks of the Brenta Dolomites, Garda Trentino thrives on striking contrasts and surprising juxtapositions. This incredible variety of landscapes and climates offers not only views that change from valley to valley, but also a remarkably high level of biodiversity. For example, we’re the only alpine destination where you’ll find olive trees growing!

Follow in their footsteps, listen to their stories, discover their fascinating secrets – from fortress to fortress, from tower to tower. Delve into the history of Garda Trentino and marvel at its age-old culture!

Gastronomy

In a place this diverse, the key word in the kitchen is fusion. Here, Venetian-inspired recipes like bigoi with sardines meet Central European flavors (ever tried Bohemian-style gnocchi?), while ingredients typical of the south, like extra virgin olive oil, find their way into mountain dishes. Whatever your taste, there’s plenty to sink your teeth into!

RESPECT FOR NATURAL PLACES

In Garda Trentino, we choose every day to take care of our destination. It’s a necessary choice to keep our territory a beautiful place to experience—whether for a lifetime or just a few days—both today and in the future. Would you like to help us? It takes little to make a big difference.

  • Take your waste with you and dispose of it in the appropriate recycling bins.

  • Respect nature: Some plant species are protected and cannot be picked. Admire their colors and take them with you in a photograph.

  • Leave flowers, stones, and historical fragments where they are, so that those who come after you can enjoy them too. Some plants can be collected in limited quantities, but without uprooting roots or tubers. Learn the rules and respect the limits.

  • Pick only what you know well and be cautious of potentially poisonous mushrooms, flowers, and berries. If in doubt, ask an expert.

  • Stay on the trails and avoid leaving marked paths, especially in unfamiliar areas. Respect any fences that may mark private properties or cultivated fields.

  • Observe animals from a distance. After all, Garda Trentino is their home too.

  • The lake is connected to its shores: Everything that falls into a drain ends up directly in the water. That’s why you should only dispose of waste in designated bins.

  • Reduce plastic use: There are many more sustainable alternatives. The water in Garda Trentino is drinkable, and you can refill your bottle at the numerous fountains throughout the area.

Every action we take has an impact on the environment and the local community. Each of us can choose if and how to adjust our habits to reduce that impact—or even turn it into a positive one. Here are some tips to get you started: ready to make a change too?

It doesn’t take much to make a difference

SUSTAINABLE STAYS

Your holiday planning often starts with choosing where to stay. This is the perfect moment to make a difference by choosing accommodations that prioritize sustainability. Some are already GSTC certified, while others are actively working towards it. In either case, you’ll enjoy eco-friendly management, local products, and thoughtful touches that enhance both your stay and reduce the impact on the environment.

RESPECT FOR CULTURA HERITAGE

Garda Trentino safeguards a rich heritage of history, art, and traditions—a testament to our identity and territory. Protecting it is a shared responsibility, and just a few simple actions can help preserve its beauty and value.

  • Do not touch artworks, frescoes, and artifacts: Time has preserved them—let’s help it continue to do so.

  • Respect protected areas and follow designated paths: Every restriction has a purpose—follow it to help preserve the site.

  • Observe without taking: Every stone or fragment tells a story.

  • Silence makes a difference: Keep phones on silent mode and voices low to ensure a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

  • Take photos where allowed: If photography isn’t prohibited, feel free to capture the moment—but always without flash, to avoid damaging the artworks.

  • Leave the place as you found it: Respect the environment and help keep it clean and intact.
