A brief tour characterised by the panoramic road in Malcesine which offers an opportunity to view Lake Garda from a different perspective. Quite a tough climb, but suitable for everyone.
The routes that offer a marvellous view of Lake Garda are truly too many to mention. This tour takes in most of the east coast of the lake.
We set off from Torbole then reach the Campiano Pass, a panoramic point above the town of Malcesine. Its olive groves, famous for producing one of the finest olive oils in Italy, frame a setting that is one of a kind. At the pass, there is a fountain to cool us down, whereas the descent offers a striking view, with the blue waters of the lake blending into the green of the olive trees.
A relatively short route, suitable for all cyclists. The climb is short, and the gradients are not taxing. A morning departure and afternoon return trip will ensure that we constantly benefit from a favourable wind.

As also suggested by the name of the itinerary, there are lots of opportunities along this route to see a unique panorama. So, don’t forget your camera!
From Torbole follow the “Gardesana Orientale(Eastern Gardesana)” road, which flanks the Lake Garda for 10 km, leading for some stretches into tunnels.
Passing from Trentino into the region Veneto you cross Navene arriving in Malcesine.
Pass through the town and immediately after the church turn left and take the uphill road almost until the intermediate stop of the funicular railway leading to the top of Mount Baldo. Here in San Michele starts a panoramic downhill road from which you can catch sight of the whole Lake Garda until the Brenta Massif.
At the end of the downhill turn right and after a couple of km take again the Gardesana Orientale leading you to starting point Torbole.
The towns in Garda Trentino - Riva del Garda, Torbole sul Garda and Arco – are connected by several urban and intercity bus lines which will take you to the starting point or in the immediate surroundings.

Riding your bike requires specific clothing and equipment, even for relatively short and easy trips. It is always better to be prepared… e.g. for bad weather or a drop your energy levels. The unexpected things also make up a part of the fun!
Do not compare a road bike with a mountain bike. They are very different, especially in technical terms, and facing a hill with a road bike could be much more difficult than facing the same hill with a MTB. Therefore, remember to throughly evaluate the type of route you plan to do and the locations you plan to cross. Do not forget to consider the current season. Has it been raining? Attention: the paint of the crosswalk could be very slick.
What do I need to bring on my bike tour?
It is always advised to let someone know where you plan to go and how long you expect to be.
