Fiorenzo Zeni leads the way with a lineup of acclaimed bandleaders, united for an unprecedented tribute to the great saxophonists in the history of jazz, from the 1920s to the present day. It is a fascinating journey that recreates the atmospheres of yesteryear, beginning with 1920s Dixieland with the arrival on the scene of Sidney Bechet, through the Swing Era of Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, the Duke through Johnny Hodges' sax, the Cool Jazz years of Paul Desmond, Lee Konitz, and Gerry Mulligan, arriving at the musical revolution of Charlie Parker's Be-Bop and then continuing into the world of Hard Bop with Sonny Rollins, the modal of John Coltrane, to the more modern Michael Brecker and Joshua Redman.
The concert will be accompanied by stories and biographical notes of musicians and protagonists of the era from the book “Still Life with Sax Case.”
